Someone needs to notify E J Brandreth of this blog. He'd be really interested (that is is he'd like a better promotion than the one they gave him). Paul, with your skills on Google,you should be able to get that job done easily.

You might even like reminiscing with him about Howard. He WAS one person who DID REALLY get to see Hughes during his hideaway years.

ANYTHING you may know of Hughes during the 50's and 60's that isn't public knowledge would be appreciated if you would post it. Especially the 1953-1957 period. And I promise, your word won't be questioned by me or mine.

I believe the old "Spruce Goose" hanger is still the largest wooden building in the USA if not in the World. It later became the production line for all of the various "Huey" helicopters build in the 50's forward until the helicopter company moved to Mesa Arizona in the mid 80's. Also, adjacent to the big hanger was the longest privately owned paved runway in the country.

I worked as an engineer in the hanger in the early 1970's designing the pilot/co-pilot instrument panels on the Apache Attack Helicopter. It was a rather primitive engineering work environment as we were next door to a large manufacturing room with several huge parts stamping machines that loudly went “Cha-Chunk” every 5 seconds. My immediate supervisor was Merle Coffee who was the radio operator on the one and only flight of the “Spruce Goose”. Merle took me and a few others into see the big bird in 1971. As a pilot myself, it was an awesome experience and I fell in love her.

In 1980 the Hughes estate had enforced an agreement reluctantly signed by Hughes before his death that donated the mammoth flying boat to the Smithsonian with provisions, if they couldn’t afford to build a structure to house the plane, that nine sections could be selected and cut-out for distribution to designated museums and make sawdust out of the rest. At the time, all of the museum heads had selected their desired piece and the destruction was eminent. ARCO had leased the land in the Port of Long Beach where the Goose was housed in its hermetically sealed hanger and maintained at +/- 5 degrees temperature and humidity for some 30 years. The Hughes lease was long past expired and the Port wanted the plane OUT…so ARCO could build a large cargo fuel tanker docking facility.

Myself and a handful of aviation enthusiast formed the “Committee to Save the Hughes Flying Boat” and later were enjoined by nearly every aviation, balloonist, parachutist organizations the world to stop the madness. We labored for 6 months and with the help of Senator Barry Goldwater (who was the designated Air Force inspector assigned to the Hercules in 1947) we were able to get the Hughes Flying Boat on the “National Register of Historic Places” in an unprecedented short period of time. This action stopped the cutting up process and allowed us more time wherein a deal was cut that put together the “Queen Mary Spruce Goose Exhibit” in 1983 thru 1992.

The giant plane was given to the Aero Club of Southern California. I served as their President in 1985-86. The Aero Club created the annual Howard Hughes Memorial Award banquet in 1979 that honors individuals for their lifetime contribution to aviation and aerospace. The annual dinner is still held every year on the third Thursday in January commemorating the 1937 Hughes record breaking cross country flight in his H-1 Racer. The list of recipients reads like who’s who in aviation beginning with Jack Northrop and more recently astronaut Neil Armstrong. Sorry boys, that won't work. You'll never guess where it is or I misjudge Howard's genius at secrecy. He will have picked a place or time where only the person he wants to find it, finds it. This tactic mirrors the $1 billion supposedly spent by Ashland Oil to build a "Cat Cracker" facility at Ashland, KY. Having talked to people who worked on that project, they were mistified that the management never seemed to really want to "do any actual research." ?? A huge insider corp collected over $1 billion dollars from the taxpayers and delivered exactly zero results at the facility! "Standard" news outlets won't touch or even question anyone about the story! Hummmm???

The "research" had already been done and used by the German scientists in WWII. The "program" was obviously a cover for a nearby undercover opp by some shady people. Now I wonder what the real opp is in the "phage" program.

I am the owner of the Mercedes 300 sl roadster - year 1957. The last american owner told me che the first owner was Howard Hughes. This car was purchased at Mercedes Benz of Santa Monica, CA - I suppose - in 1957 or 1958.

Just road tripped up the entire Mississippi Valley and when thinking about it, was amazed how many sterilizing items I saw in hotels, homes and resturants: I was using hand sanitizer at my house of worhip when it hit me that the general public was now doing a lot of the same things they called Howard lunatic for! Above is an article from a reporter who recorded a Sprint manager detailing just how easy it is to access ALL (TOTALLY ALL) the use of a customer's cell phone. In the 40's, sure, Dean Smith could have spoke to HRH, Jr. when he disappeared for a couple of months working as a baggage handler at a small airport.
In the 60's? Not a chance. It took a special key to even allow the Desert Inn elevator ninth floor access. Two guards sat at the elevator entrance. Other guards stood at the stairwells. Aides occupied rooms beside HRH's room, and camped in HRH's living room 24/7.
So, a spindly, weak, drugged and very unkept Hughes would have quite a few hurdles to overcome to 'vanish' from the penthouse to meander across Nevada dessert.
If the good Dean spoke to HRH, Jr. through a window, he must have dreamed he was elevated outside the penthouse floor.
Paul Laxalt, former govenor of Nevada had a few conversations w/ HRH, and he would have informed Dean Smith of HRH's largesse.

Jean Family member: "Jean never had any childern." Another participate who was with Howard in the 50's. "Well at least she didn't have any childern in the 50's by Howard."

The upshot is that she DID have childern, and that both familys were LEAD TO BELEIVE they/it wasn't Howard's. Match this with the FBI file recording of a possible 10 million dollar black mail attempt, posted on here by Anonymous, and you have an interesting stiutation. I agree that we should all ask the president to declasify all material about Howard Hughes without editing. If they don't then they will be liable as a govenment and personally in the alleged conspirisy to defraud.
