A who's who of Southern California show business and society has come through with the money to preserve 138 acres near the famed Hollywood sign. The property on Cahuenga Peak had been slated for luxury home development.
Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner concluded the fund-raising effort this week by pledging $900,000 toward the $12.5 million negotiated price for the land. He joined Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Aileen Getty and many others who chipped in. The Trust for Public Land will take ownership of the acreage from Fox River Financial Resources of Chicago. The land, which offers a 360-degree view of the Los Angeles Basin and San Fernando Valley, will be added to Griffith Park.
We care about this news item at The Howard Hughes Blog because the land once was owned by Howard Hughes. Hughes bought it around 1940 and wanted to build a house there for girlfriend Ginger Rogers. That tempestuous relationship — weren't most of them tempestuous? — didn't work out and the house was never built. Fox River Financial Resources bought the land from the Hughes estate in 2002 for a meager $1.7 million.

Ever dawn on anyone that a lot of the Hughes properties have been sold for a fraction of what they were shortly AGAIN sold for! Hummm! Sounds like a legal fandango to get establish a longer chain of transferal. I commented on that practice almost 10 years ago. Now who might have thought up that senerio??? Almost sounds as cagey as the Goldman Sachs boondoggles don't it???
Putting the properties in "Public Entities" like Spring Mountain Ranch and the Hollywood society looks like a legal dance designed to decrease the likely hood of someone repossessing the property (spin control to cast the litigate as a bad guy rather than a wronged party) and also allowing the gov (local, state or fed) to cry eminent domain in litigation. Did you come up with that idea, Paul or was that a spook invention?
Idiot!!! The Spring Mountain Ranch was sold to Fletcher Jones. It was Jones who sold it to the State for a park because there was such a public outcry about developing it.
The Hollywood property was sold (according to the news release) to some development company who in turn re-sold it and there was again a public outcry resulting in the preservation group raising money to save it.
If I am getting you to hone your investigative skills, one of us is coming up way short!
You just proved my point, (same pattern, same result, same plan, same planner) if the idea is to confuse the lineage of ownership, it has certainly worked. The public is always fed a "plausible denial" load of misdirection.
I have seen many of the properties that were in the former Hughes ownership, sold for what was thought a fair price at the time and later they are sold to some corporation or public entity for many times that! Seems to be a consistent pattern and pattern indicates intelligence (although sometimes it is limited) and intelligence indicates plan and plan indicates lawyers working their plots!
Confusing ain't it! And that's the way Goldman Sachs just boondoggled the US out of trillions.
Cast your mind back to the 234 billion in in treasuries in a briefcase on the Italian/French border. Sure those treasury bonds and their source was covered in a screen of transfers and ownership screens too! Wonder how many billion were siphoned off the Hughes legacy by just such smoke screens??? Sooner or later, the lawyers, like the CEO of Goldman, make a revealing slip that lets the whole can of beans come spilling out, like the admission that "their may have not been any real value behind the derivative deal"
In fact, this President seems to delight in making the corporate pigs squeal in anguish. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if he might just take an interest in the Hughes matter. You know he's not a stupid as the gullible public you've been dealing with for the past 34 years! That statement a few months ago about not shielding people to keep from embarassing the gov, might just lead to the release of some unredacted hot stuff in the Hughes matter. (Did you ever read the 1958 KGB analysis about rich Americans?) They were privy to some interesting stuff that the American public never got wind of. Of course, where it was published is a place you would never go!
Now I know from your political contributions, where your sentiments lie, that might not go down well with the current powers that be. rofl.
In most corporate lawyer circles the ethics dictate that there is no wrong as long as you can snow it over and spin the result. The real crime to these twisted operators is getting caught! You ever heard opinions like that???
BTW the boys in twos had better be careful, the shenanigans they pulled last time, won't work again! Different situation and different dynamics.
If you know what I'm talking about, fine if not, nothing lost. Yes Geoff I know it's cryptic and will continue to be to your well earned irk!
"Fear the dear"????? Spoken like a true sports fanatic!
Got suckered into a game of pickup basketball last night myself! Don't remember it hurting quite so much 20 years ago! But didn't embarrass my self (too much). Paying for it today! See ya later, gotta go soak! Creak, creak!!!
Oh, my gosh! My political contributions have been investigated? Wow! Now, there's BIG news! Holy Cow! I'm sure you've uncovered some great conspiracy there! As I said before, if one of us is causing you to hone your investigative skills, one of us is failing badly!
Why do scam artists seem to assume that if the scam has over one layer, no one else can see through it??? The innocent buyer scam is not new and people other than lawyers can see beyond one step in a chain of transferal to muddle ownership.
OK, history 101. Roman centurions would have the standard (Roman legion eagles that were essentially worshiped) into the opposing army so that the Roman soldiers would fight like mad to retrieve it. Attempting development on historic land is just a modern repeat of that strategy, it allows 1. Instigating everyone in an uproar to save the "sacred" object. 2. Someone else to do the dying(historians fight the battle to raise the money). 3. You get an inflated price. 4. The property goes into public hands where eminent domain can be declared! This is a play out of the dirty tricks book that is as old as history! It uses the little people to enrich the manipulator! On a lighter note, God executed (essentially) Eli and his two sons for running that play with the Ark of the Covenant (along with other major transgressions). 1Samuel 4:4, 10-11. Now with you being closely related to a "prophet", you should know that that is a forbidden tactic!
Quit giving Paul the nuances here as obviously he either can't fathom them or in lawyer mode has to decry everything. Paul, if you don't understand the point of the contributions then someone here has vastly overestimated the other.
Remind me Geoff, where I had that brain transplant!!!????
Seems to be the week for the mighty to fall.
1. Goldman Sachs CEO admits that there is no intrinsic value in many of the things they sell. Even though they had "fund managers" in control of the "air" they were selling to take people's retirement funds.
2. FBI investigates Massey MEE for history of safety violations and a culture of callousness that leads to miners dying. Even though they the CEO has named "God" responsible for all his troubles. I even hear he has process servers trying to locate God and supenoa him (kinda like Hughes).
3. BP is called to account for shoddy practices even though they tried to distance themselves with "contractors' and "facility operators". All oil platforms must now endure a rigorous inspection. The oil industry will have to answer to the law rather than receive "freedom metals" and a "license to steal".
The score isn't looking so good for the corporate hierarchy vs the private citizen this week! Wonder if the trend will continue?
This comment from the previous thread deserves to be re posted:
Fact:Paul's Encino office is 19 minutes drive time (13.95 miles) from Romaine, (now if Paul didn't know how to drive or couldn't get a company driver: he might have a point of not working anymore at Romaine. He expects us to believe he stayed completely away from his old digs after becoming "Executive Assistant" when his "boss" still maintained an office there.????? Hmmmmmm! NaH!!!!
Fact: The Encino office was part of an earlier chain of breakins at Hughes owned facilities.
Fact: Management: Had to be stupid or in on it to not see that Romaine was due to be hit by burglary very soon.
Fact: After 2 breakins to copy my medical records, I warned all my other holders of my records to always maintain them in a separate inaccessible place.
Fact: That foresight, foiled a breaking only 2 weeks after warning my family doctor.
Fact: If I could see it coming: Gay, Winn and all the other in management at Encino and Romaine were guilty of gross negligence. IMHO
Fact: Serial Breakins are a connecting factor with Hughes.
Fact: Many of the Mormons still maintained offices at Romaine. Gay's office was a principle focus of the breakin as were the tables with the Hughes memorandum organized on them. Are we to believe the "Corporate secretary" wasn't there supervising the preparation of the records for submission??? Now that's stretching it a bit.
Fact: Paul's quote:"I was Corporate Secretary of all the Hughes companies until I retired", The extensive "records" that Paul refers to were under his direct supervision. And Romaine was the depository of those records.
Fact: The "duty" person was identified but the testimony on one of the burglars was that "Mr. Inside" supervised the operation. That person was never identified.
Fact: You know very well who "The Mormons" are.
Fact: Your claim to not have been in the Romaine building for 4 years before the break in is stretching the imagination quite a bit, seeing that you were "Executive Assistant" to Bill Gay. It will also be checked and verified and you will be cited when the proof surface.
Fact: Paul's own quote, "I was at the office when we were notified by a ham radio operator that Hughes and his entourage were safe after the earthquake and were on the way to the airport."
Fact: the earthquake occurred at 12:29 AM. Dec 23, 1972. Stewart and Margolis gave a blow by blow in the "Hidden Years". Paul did quite a bit of calling for an airplane. Those phone records still exist.
Question: Paul: given the above for a memory aide: Do you STILL contend that you weren't at Romaine after 1971. Now think closely just how much BS you want us to swallow before you answer.
Go down to Nogales, Tijuana or any of the other Mexican border towns and view the bodies on the streets at daylight most mornings and talk to the American citizens who are housebound because gangs imported from below the border own the night, and defend your daughter from a Mexican hired killer wielding a 8 inch butterfly knife and you might not be so glib about the Arizona measures. I have done all the above and forgive you for your ignorance because I hope you never have to see what is happening down there!
Mark this, when the troops come back from Iraq and Afghanistan, they will spend another 10 years in combat before the southern border is secure!
Just figured why Paul quit talking, he's to busy CYAing.
