Hughes-modified car up for auction

Here's an article from Motor Authority about a Lincoln car that Hughes is believed to have modified in the 1930s. It will be up for auction next month. Find it here: http://tinyurl.com/o8epwh

Bought your book this morning, am about 1/3 way through it. (Hard to read while driving but am managing(just kidding)). Anyway, have found several useful things to my research already.

Talked to some long known LV Hughes associates today and they were NOT complimentary of Mr. Winn. Won't quote them here, but the general opinion was from LA he knew LITTLE about what happened here.

Did you discuss with Margullis about Hughes gadding about while he was at the Landmark? I talked to two friends of Margulis today. Evidently Margulis liked their company and used to visit often. He used to tell stories and both them said Margulis' stories featured Hughes disappearing from the Landmark on frequent occasions and Margulis being told by HRH to pretend he was still there. I heard these stories with my own ears. To quote one, "Hughes would disappear for days at a time and I was supposed to pretend he was still here." Just wondering if he confided the same to you??

Another told me: "While he was supposed to be locked up in the penthouse, he would come by my place and have dinner and sometimes rent one of my rooms for a couple days. One day he handed me a blank check and told me to fill it in, that he wanted to buy my establishment. I refused and we laughed about it."

Meet me for supper and I assure you, you won't complain of the quiet. My wife and daughter never quit talking. (grin) We're about ready to go out!

Correction:
I meant to say Desert Inn, I had just Visited the Landmark area and guess the preoccupation bled through!
